Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Moscow on July 8-9 for the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit. This visit is notable as it’s his first trip to Russia since the Russia-Ukraine war began in February 2022.

According to Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for the Kremlin, Prime Minister Modi’s itinerary in Moscow is set to be extensive, including informal discussions with Russian leadership. The visit will feature bilateral discussions covering various dimensions of the India-Russia relationship, as well as dialogues on global and regional issues of mutual interest, as highlighted by the Ministry of External Affairs.

Key highlights of Modi’s visit will include one-on-one talks and delegation-level meetings, reflecting the depth of engagement between the two nations. Peskov emphasised the anticipated importance of the visit for enhancing Russian-Indian relations, as reported by Tass news agency.

Modi’s last visit to Russia was in 2019 to participate in an economic conference in Vladivostok. Over the past decade, Prime Minister Modi and President Vladimir Putin have convened 16 times. Their most recent meeting was in 2022 during the SCO summit in Uzbekistan. This consistent engagement underscores the robust diplomatic relations between India and Russia.
