For the first time India is the guest country for the XI edition of the Neiba International Book and Culture Fair 2024, to be held in Bahoruco, Dominican Republic later this year.

Confirming this, Ramu Abbagani, the first resident Ambassador of India to the Caribbean nation said: “From October 3-6, 2024 the fair is taking place and the Tierra Blanca Foundation has chosen India as the guest country for this year’s 11th edition of the Neiba Book and Culture Fair.”

“This is part of the celebration of 25 years of diplomatic relations between India and the Dominican Republic,” he added.

Significance of the date

In addition, the date chosen is of great importance for India since October 2nd is the anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi. “That is why this year, the Embassy of India in Santo Domingo will dedicate its participation in the XI Neiba International Fair to the commemoration of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi and the celebration of our friendly relations with the Dominican Republic,” Ambassador Abbagani added.

Through this fair, Dominicans will experience more closely the richness of Indian culture in all its aspects as there will be an exhibition of Indian books, and yoga workshops, traditional Indian dance performances, interesting talks on Indian spirituality, Indian natural medicine: Ayurveda and meditation for the benefit of health.

This year’s Neiba International Book and Culture Fair is expected to be a huge success and a fitting celebration of 25 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

And, “will be a fitting tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, who carried the Indian message of non-violence and tolerance around the world,” said Ambassador Abbagani.
