75th Republic Day 2024: Key routes for avoiding traffic hiccups; complete traffic advisory with alternative routes, travel details & more

Ahead of the 75th Republic Day, the Delhi Police has put out traffic restrictions and arrangements for the smooth commemoration of India’s constitution and the country’s transition to a republic.
As per the notification, the Republic Day parade will start at 10.30 am from Vijay Chowk and will proceed towards the Red Fort grounds. Besides that, there will be a function at the National War Memorial at 9.30 am to mark the auspicious occasion.
Notably, there will be extensive traffic arrangements and restrictions along the parade route. The parade will pass through Vijay Chowk, Kartavya Path, C-Hexagon, the Subhas Chandra Bose roundabout, Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Netaji Subhas Marg and Red Fort, the Delhi Police advisory mentioned.
Key traffic restrictions around parade route
The celebrations will be inaugurated with a grand parade, which will start from Raisina Hill near the Rashtrapati Bhavan (President’s House), along the Kartavya Path.
Importantly, there will be no traffic movement on Kartavya Path from Vijay Chowk to India Gate from 6 pm on January 25 and 26. These restrictions will stay in place till the parade is over.
Further, no cross-traffic will be allowed on Kartavya Path at Rafi Marg, Janpath, Man Singh Road from 10 pm on Wednesday till the end of the parade, the advisory stated.
Besides, C-Hexagon-India Gate has been closed for traffic from 9.15 am from today till the parade crosses Tilak Marg. Traffic on Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, and Netaji Subhas Marg has been restricted till the republic day celebrations end.
Alternative routes for commuters
The traffic advisory has also suggested alternative routes that commuters can follow to prevent traffic jams.
The commuters can take the alternate route from Madarsa, Lodhi Road T-point via Aurobindo Marg, AIIMS Chowk, Ring Road-Dhaula Kuan, Vande Matram Marg, and Shankar Road to reach Mandir Marg, the advisory stated.
People travelling to New Delhi railway station from south Delhi can pass through Dhaula Kuan, Vande Matram Marg, Panchkuian Road, the Connaught Place Outer Circle, and Chelmsford Road for the Paharganj side, and Minto Road and Bhavbhuti Marg for the Ajmeri Gate side.
For people coming from east Delhi, can take Boulevard Road via the ISBT bridge, the Rani Jhansi flyover, the Jhandewalan roundabout, DB Gupta Road, Sheela Cinema Road, and the Paharganj bridge, the advisory informed.
To reach Old Delhi railway station from south Delhi, the advisory urged people to take the Ring Road, Ashram Chowk, Sarai Kale Khan, Rajghat, Chowk Yamuna Bazar, SP Mukherjee Marg, Chhatta Rail and the Kauria bridge.
Meanwhile, flying sub-conventional aerial platforms such as paragliders, paramotors, hang gliders, UAVs, UASs, microlight aircraft, remotely-piloted aircraft, hot-air balloons, small-size-powered aircraft, quadcopters, or para jumping from aircraft are prohibited over the jurisdiction of Delhi till February 15, 2024.
Routes for inter-state services
The Inter-state buses from Ghaziabad bound for Shivaji Stadium will have to take National Highway-24, the Ring Road, and terminate at Bhairon Road. Buses coming from NH24 will take a right turn on Road No 56 and terminate at ISBT-Anand Vihar.
Additionally, no heavy transport/light goods vehicles will be allowed to enter Delhi from other states from 11 pm on Thursday till the commemorations are over. These vehicles will only be allowed to ply between ISBT-Sarai Kale Khan and ISBT-Kashmere Gate on the Ring Road from 7.30 am to 1.30 pm on Friday, the advisory stated.
DMRC advises passengers to reach R-Day invitations
Meanwhile, Delhi Metro has urged the passengers to reach their e-invitation for those who are attending the Republic Day celebrations.
“People who will be in possession of bona fide e-invitation cards or e-tickets for attending the Republic Day ceremony will be issued coupons on production of government-issued identity cards at stations, which will be valid for exits from Central Secretariat and Udyog Bhawan stations only to reach Kartavya Path,” a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) statement said.
The same coupon will be valid for return journeys from these two stations.
“Similarly, those (with invitation cards) marked for enclosures 10 to 24 and VN are advised to deboard at the Central Secretariat. Regular announcements will also be made inside the trains to inform passengers about the same so that they deboard at the designated stations in order to reach their enclosures smoothly,” the DMRC mentioned.
