Delhi Airport flight disruptions today: At least 10 flights were cancelled, and over 270 others faced delays at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) on Tuesday as dense fog led to poor visibility conditions. An airport official, per a PTI report, said six arrivals and four departures have been cancelled for the day.
Data from flight-tracking platform Flightradar24 showed that more than 270 flights were running behind schedule, with departures delayed by an average of around 29 minutes, PTI reported.
It is to be noted that the Delhi Airport handles around 1,300 flight movements daily.
‘Some flight departures may be impacted’
“Flight operations are running smoothly at Delhi Airport. However, some flight departures for certain destinations may be impacted,” Delhi Airport said in a passenger advisory at 1 pm today.

‘Visibility improving, but…’
In another advisory at around 11 am, Delhi Airport stated, “Visibility at the airport is improving; however, flight departures for certain destinations may experience delay.”

In earlier updates, the airport said that due to dense fog and low visibility, the flight operations are being conducted under CAT III conditions. As the condition improved, the airport said that the flights are operating under CAT II conditions.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), visibility at Indira Gandhi International Airport was 50 metres at 8 am today.
“During the night and early morning hours of December 23rd, dense to very dense fog is likely to prevail over several parts of North, Central, East, and Northeast India,” the met department said in its fog alert.
The met department added, “Visibility may reduce drastically, leading to disruptions in road, rail, and air transport. Delays, diversions, and slower traffic movement are possible.”
It also listed regions which are at higher risk. These include, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi–NCR, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu region, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
