Europen, ultra-low-cost airline Wizz Air is looking at direct connectivity between its biggest European bases and India.
Speaking to Fe, Wizz Air chief executive József Váradi said the airline is in touch with India’s civil aviation regulator, DGCA, to start the new flight services.
“We are working on designation (regulatory approval) to be able to come here from Europe or Abu Dhabi,” he told Fe on the sidelines of the CAPA India Summit.
“It is still a work in progress. We are interested in having flights come here from our Abu Dhabi and European operations.”
According to Váradi, depending upon the regulatory approvals and the delivery of Airbus XLR aircraft, the new flight services might commence in 2025.
Currently, the airline operates A320 and A321 types of aircraft, which lack the range to sustain Europe-to-India flight operations.
