Over 90% of the work at the upcoming Noida International Airport has been completed and the remaining tasks are expected to wrap up by September 30, airport officials confirmed on Monday.
Newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) Rakesh Kumar Singh told Indian Express that most of the necessary licenses for operational readiness have already been secured, with only two still pending. “We expect to receive the remaining licenses during this period. A site review will be conducted this week to evaluate the outstanding work,” Singh said.
The CEO stressed upon the scale and complexity of the project, noting that each section of the airport has its own set of challenges and timelines. “This is an international airport and the standards we have to meet are much higher,” he said.
While significant infrastructure like the terminal and runways is nearing completion, Singh said no date has been finalised for inauguration or operations. “Once the pending work is complete, we’ll announce the official launch,” he added.
Singh noted that around 85% of the terminal building is finished and ongoing work across multiple zones has pushed overall progress beyond the 90% mark.
Uttar Pradesh’s Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta on Saturday reiterated that the airport, located in Jewar, will be completed by November. Since its foundation stone was laid in November 2021, the project has missed several deadlines; most recently, the revised opening dates of April and June 2024.
Despite earlier delays, officials now appear optimistic about wrapping up construction in the next few months and bringing the airport closer to welcoming its first flights.
