A SriLankan Airlines flight from Chennai to Colombo underwent a comprehensive security check on Saturday after Indian authorities raised an alert about a suspect believed to be on board.

In a statement, SriLankan Airlines confirmed that Flight UL 122, operated by aircraft 4R-ALS, arrived in Colombo at 11:59 AM on May 3 and was subjected to a detailed inspection in coordination with local law enforcement agencies. The alert originated from the Chennai Area Control Centre, which flagged the presence of an individual wanted in India.

“The aircraft was thoroughly inspected and cleared for further operations. However, due to the mandatory security procedures, the subsequent service, Flight UL 308 to Singapore, was delayed,” the airline said.

SriLankan Airlines emphasized that the safety and security of passengers and crew remain the airline’s top priority, and it continues to uphold the highest standards in aviation security.

This incident comes amid an ongoing investigation into the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Gunmen opened fire at civilians in the Baisaran meadow area near the town, killing 26 people, many of whom were tourists.

Authorities have released sketches of the suspects, believed to have links to Pakistan, and a nationwide manhunt is currently underway. Indian intelligence agencies suspect the possible cross-border movement of individuals connected to the attack.

In response to the incident, India on April 23 downgraded diplomatic ties with Pakistan and announced a series of stringent measures, including the expulsion of Pakistani military attachés, the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, and a complete ban on imports from Pakistan effective immediately, citing national security and public policy concerns.
