Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) has launched a new self-service facility in which passengers will be able to check in their luggage, collect tags, get a print of their boarding pass, and complete the check-in process in shorter time.

Under the new facility of a quick baggage drop system, flyers will be able to check in their baggage in just 30 seconds comparable to earlier one minute. With this latest initiative, Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport has become first in India and second globally to offer this facility. Toronto Airport of Canada is the first one to facilitate this feature in the world.

The CEO of DIAL, Videh Kumar Jaipuriar said,’’ We have launched the Self-Service Bag Drop Quick Solution at Delhi Airport, setting a new bar for passenger comfort and efficiency in India. Advanced technology has been used in this facility to enhance the travel journey of the passengers’’. ‘’The Quick Drop Solution will not only help in speeding up the check-in process but it will also ensure a seamless travel experience.’’

Are the services available for all?

Currently, the services are made available at Terminals 1 and 3, and at the airport, a total of 50 Self-Service Bag Drop (SSBD) units have been installed. Flyers of Indigo, Air India, and Air India Express will be able to avail of the services for now.

Now with the usage of DIAL’s quick drop solution, the process of collecting a boarding pass will be discarded and the need for biometric validation will also not be required. As with the new system, passengers will get all the important details on the luggage tag itself.

How does the quick drop solution work?

Flyers can go to the common-use self-service (CUSS) kiosks upon their arrival at the airport and can attach and collect their luggage tags. Once the passengers have submitted their bags on the self-service bag drop conveyor belt, the system will automatically verify the airline’s application just with a single click. Next, flyers will need to click on the agree button which declares the goods self-declaration form, and in the last leg, the bag will be processed automatically before the system makes internal checks based on airline norms and regulations.

Earlier, passengers used to take prints out of their boarding passes and baggage tags from the CUSS kiosks which took one minute to complete the process. With the new system, passengers will need to use biometric cameras or scan their boarding passes and put their baggage on the conveyor belt.
