The Noida International Airport (NIA) successfully completed the calibration of its Instrument Landing System (ILS) and Precision Approach Path indicator (PAPI) on Monday. This is a major development in the airport’s journey for its operational readiness.
The calibration process started on 10 October and continued till 14 October with the support of the Director General of Civil Aviation and Airport Authority of India (AAI). A Beech King AIR 360ER aircraft was utilized to ensure that the navigation systems were up to the highest safety standards for the operations of the aircraft.
What are ILS and PAPI?
The ILS is a radio navigation system that helps in providing clear directions to the pilots during the landing, especially in low-visibility conditions. By making use of this system, pilots will be able to minimize flight delays and boost operational efficiency. On the other hand, the PAPI uses lights along the runway to provide pilots with accurate descent angles resulting in boosting safety.
Ensuring safe landings
As these systems are now calibrated, Noida International Airport is one step closer to becoming operational. The airport is expected to be open later this year, two years ahead of Indira Gandhi International Airport reaching full traffic capacity. The airport location will serve major regions like Noida, Dadri, and Agra and also help in boosting connectivity.
