Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) recorded a passenger traffic of 4.32 million passengers last month, which translates to a 32% year-on-year increase. Last year in August, the Mumbai airport traffic was at 3.2 million, CSMIA said.
The number of international passengers at the Mumbai airport saw a 33% growth at 1.1 million, as compared to 0.84 million last year. Delhi, Bengaluru and Chennai were the top domestic destinations for CSMIA in August this year. Meanwhile, Dubai, London, and Abu Dhabi were the most preferred international destinations.
The CSMIA recorded a total of 20,711 domestic Air Traffic Managements(ATMs) and 6,960 international ATMs in August 2023.
Independence Day weekend surge
The CSMIA saw a significant increase in passenger traffic during the Independence Day weekend in August. It saw 1,50,257 and 1,50,907 passengers on August 11 and 12 respectively, reflecting an 8.4% growth compared to the average daily passenger count of August 2023 which is 1,39,661.
The CSMIA also saw growth in its international sectors compared to last year. Some of the top growing international sectors included Munich which saw a 150% jump in passenger traffic. Hanoi also saw a 138% growth.
Istanbul, Nairobi and Ho Chi Minh saw a passenger growth amounting to 110%, 99% and 96%, respectively, in August as compared to August 2022.
