Mumbai Airport has announced an increase in its processing capacity to approximately 8,000 passengers per hour. Additionally, with the expansion of both DigiYatra and non-DigiYatra facilities across its two terminals, the airport aims to reduce kerbside wait times to under one minute.
The airport will also be deploying cameras employing Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to up its overall security system at the kerbside.
Entry lanes increased
The number of entry lanes (terminal entry points or e-gates) has been increased from 24 to 68, marking the highest number of e-gates at kerbside/landside in the country. This includes 34 lanes exclusively for DigiYatra passengers, achieved without any structural modifications by adopting a digital gateway solution.
Furthermore, Terminal 1 features six dedicated DigiYatra e-gates and six non-DigiYatra e-gates, further enhancing the airport’s overall capacity and passenger experience.
Additionally, 118 e-gates will be deployed at the Pre-embarkation Security Check (PESC) area at T2 with an aim to simplify passenger movement, the airport said. DigiYatra passengers will now be able to breeze through the e-gates without having to show their ticket, boarding pass, or identity verification, because of biometric validation.
“We have significantly expanded our DigiYatra facility on our digital gateway platform at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). By increasing the number of e-gates and integrating advanced biometric systems, we are committed to ensuring swift, secure, and seamless travel for all our passengers,” MIAL said.
