The obstacle of dense fog disrupted flight operations at the Delhi airport even today. Several flights were delayed and flight operations were affected as dense fog continued to grip the national capital, ANI reported.

The misty conditions have been posing an unforeseen challenge, impeding air travel due to low visibility in the midst of unpredictable weather.

Delhi airport flight disruptions

Earlier today the Delhi airport authorities issued a passenger advisory at 5:06 am on X, formerly Twitter, saying that low visibility procedures are in progress at the airport and that all flight operations were normal at the time. 

This post was soon followed by a post by ANI which said that several flights had been delayed at the Delhi airport. A visual shared by the news agency showed the flight information screens showing delay for some flights. The video further showed a thick blanket of fog engulfing the tarmac and the airplanes.

Intense fog in Delhi

As per the prediction by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD),dense to very dense fog conditions were likely to prevail in several areas of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh during the nights and mornings from January 25 to 30, while it added that Delhi was to witness dense fog on the morning of January 26.

Air India tackles fog-linked disruptions

Air India CEO and Managing Director Campbell Wilson on Thursday said that the carrier was looking into ways to cope with fog-linked flight disruptions better, as per a PTI report. It is exploring the development of a more extensive group of pilots proficient in operating under low visibility conditions. Additionally, the airline is enhancing roster planning, incorporating schedule buffers, and considering a proactive approach to flight cancellations to effectively address such situations.
