The infrastructure sector is in the spotlight as exit polls signal the return of the Modi government for a third term. According to the BJP’s manifesto, the aviation sector is poised for significant advancements. Alongside railways and highways, aviation is anticipated to be a top priority, with industry players expecting substantial investment opportunities.

During the last two terms of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country has witnessed a robust expansion in national infrastructure. In the past few years many airports have been equipped with modern technologies and several smaller cities have found their way on the country’s aviation map.

Here’s how BJP plans to position India as a leading aviation hub in South Asia:

Developing Airports for Seamless Connectivity

BJP aims to enhance air connectivity multifold by developing and operationalising new airports, helipads, and aerodromes. This initiative seeks to ensure that even the most remote parts of the country are connected by air, facilitating smoother and quicker travel for passengers and boosting regional economies.

Expansion of International Airports

In line with the vision for enhanced connectivity and economic growth, BJP plans to expand the number of international airports. This expansion is expected to not only improve global connectivity but also attract international tourism and business, thereby boosting the economy.

Ensuring the Modernisation of Airports

A key component of Modi 3.0’s aviation strategy is transforming airports into multi-modal hubs. This vision involves integrating various transit facilities such as buses, metro, and rapid rail systems, using the PM Gatishakti National Master Plan.

Airport Transformation under Amrit Kaal Civil Aviation Master Plan

The introduction of the Amrit Kaal Civil Aviation Master Plan is a pivotal step in the government’s aviation agenda. This master plan aims to transform Indian airports into regional international hubs, providing single-point connectivity to designated regions worldwide. The vision is to position India as the leading aviation ecosystem of South Asia.

Meanwhile, industry players are optimistic about the exit poll predictions and the potential return of the Modi government. “The modernization of airports, ports, and the development of greenfield projects will further bolster our infrastructure backbone, directly contributing to youth employment and GDP growth. Alongside this infrastructure surge, it’s imperative to prioritize sustainable metals that enhance infrastructure longevity. These ambitious endeavors will stimulate demand for metals like galvanized steel, pivotal for infrastructure and sustainability initiatives, ushering in a new era of development and environmental stewardship,” remarked Rahul Sharma, Director India, International Zinc Association (IZA).
