A 13-year-old boy was detained for allegedly sending an email to Delhi Airport falsely claiming that a bomb had been planted on a flight bound for Dubai, police informed on Sunday (June 23).

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI Airport) Usha Rangnani, the boy admitted to sending the email “just for fun” after hearing about another teenager who made a similar hoax bomb threat call recently.

Bomb threat on Dubai-bound flight

The incident was reported on Monday following a complaint regarding a bomb threat on a Dubai-bound flight scheduled for June 18. An FIR was filed based on the complaint, initiating a thorough investigation.

The DCP informed that all safety protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) were strictly adhered to in order to safeguard the passengers. “Airport was put on high alert, and an emergency was declared,” she said.

Threat turned out to be hoax

However, she stated that during the investigation, the email was determined to be a hoax. “During the investigation, it was revealed that the e-mail ID was deleted just after sending the email. The email was traced at Pithoragarh in Uttranchal,” Rangnani said.

She mentioned that a team was dispatched to apprehend the boy responsible for sending the hoax email.

“The boy told the police team that his parents had given a mobile to him for study purposes through which he sent the email and later deleted his ID. He did not share any information with his parents as he was scared. He was apprehended and handed over to his parents,” she added.
