The DGCA has issued a show cause notice to Air India after its flight to San Francisco was delayed by over 20 hours in Delhi and the passengers were put through uncomfortable conditions.

The notice has been issued for inordinate delay of at least two of the carriers international flights and its failure to take required care of the passengers.

“Air India is hereby called upon to show cause as to why enforcement action shall not be initiated against the airline,” for the violations, the DGCA said.

It highlighted the significant delays of two international flights –  AI 183 from Delhi to San Francisco on May 30 and AI 179 from Mumbai to San Francisco on May 24. Both flights experienced delays, causing passenger discomfort due to inadequate cabin cooling. Further, it noted repeated incidents of Air India causing passenger discomfort in violation of DGCA norms, as mentioned in the show cause notice.

In its notice the DGCA said that the carrier has failed in taking care of its passengers “time and again”. It added that the Tata-owned airline also failed to comply with  its provisions related to ‘facilities to be provided to passengers by airlines due to denied boarding, cancellation of flights and delays in flights”

The regulator also noted that Air India is “time and again failing in taking due care of passengers”, and not complying with its provisions related to ‘facilities to be provided to passengers by airlines due to denied boarding, cancellation of flights and delays in flights”.
