Tata Motors has been at the forefront of the electric vehicles sector in India. Now the Indian automobile manufacturer has added another feather to its cap as it has entered into an agreement with Jaguar Land Rover as the iconic brand’s pure electric platform Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA). What this means is that Tata Passenger Electric Mobility’s (TPEM) new-generation high-end EVs, based on the Avinya concept, will be developed on JLR’s EMA platform. According to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by both companies, JLR will share the all-electric platform with TPEM for a royalty fee.
Masterstroke by Tata Motors and JLR
TPEM has taken a major step for its upcoming third-generation EVs by confirming that JLR’s EMA platform will underpin the new all-electric mid-sized SUVs. Tata will launch the new EVs from 2025 onwards and will be available in the global market. The EMA platform will help TPEM to maximise interior space, and optimize comfort and vision along with advanced electrical and electronic architecture, connectivity, software and feature over-the-air capability. The EMA will have a highly integrated propulsion system (cell-to-pack battery technology, battery management and charging system) to deliver class-leading efficiency and range.
Thanks to the EMA platform, the Avinya series will come equipped with the latest ADAS features and state-of-the-art charging options. This will also help accelerate TPEM’s adoption of Software Over the Air (SOTA), Features Over the Air (FOTA) and safety (5-star Euro NCAP).
On this occasion, Anand Kulkarni, Chief Product Officer and Head HV Programmes, TPEM, said, “Avinya stands for ‘Innovation’ and represents our vision for a new paradigm in personal mobility. Being built on an architecture that is equipped with the latest advances in new-age technology, software and artificial intelligence, Avinya will spawn a new breed of world-class EVs, with global standards in efficiency and range. We are delighted to collaborate on the EMA platform with JLR for actualizing this vision”.
