A firming trend developed in the wholesale grain market in the national capital today. Select commodities such as wheat and rice rose on paucity of stocks following restricted arrivals from producing belts against increased demand.
Traders said restricted supplies against increased demand attributed to a rise in wholesale wheat and rice prices. Wheat MP (deshi) rose by Rs 25 to Rs 1425-1725 and wheat dara (for mills) by Rs 30 to Rs 1070-1095 per quintal respectively. Atta chakki (delivery) gained Rs 30 to Rs 1090-1100 per 90 kg while atta flour mill variety traded higher by Rs 20 to Rs 600-610 per 50 kg.
Other wheat products like maida and sooji also jumped up by Rs 25 and Rs 20 to Rs 680-690 and Rs 710-715 per 50 kg respectively.
In the rice section, basmati common rose by Rs 200 to Rs 8400-8500 per quintal on pick up in demand. Permal raw in the non-basmati section also gained Rs 20 to Rs 1500-1600 per quintal.
