A decade after it began selling high-end buses in India, Swedish manufacturer Volvo Buses plans to launch a separate brand in the country to tap a market opportunity for less expensive buses. The new range of buses would roll out in 2014 and would later be introduced in other emerging markets, the company announced on Wednesday.

?We have decided on a dual brand strategy for the emerging markets. We will start in India to go into the value segment during 2014,? said AB Volvo business areas executive vice president Hakan Karlsson. ?This is an important strategic step for Volvo buses that we enter into a new segment with a second brand. That follows well with the whole strategy of the Volvo group that we also work with a dual-brand strategy,? he said.

?We have had the product concept on trial for almost 12 months and we are in the final evaluation to decide upon the industrial operations,? Karlsson further stated.
