The Trai on Tuesday rejected the department of telecommunications (DoT) suggestion of charging a higher entry fee for Internet telephony from Internet service providers.
DoT had suggested that for a level-playing field, Internet service providers must pay more since the telecom licensees have to pay Rs 1,651 crore as licence fee for a pan India licence while ISPs dont pay any entry fee, paying only 6% of their adjusted gross revenue as licence fee.
In contrast, telecom licence holders pay a revenue share licence fee ranging between 6-10% of their AGR depending on circles.
