I would like to thank Subir Raha, former ONGC chairman, for his article (?900 crore and $160 a barrel?, June 11) in which he brought to light the secret of the ?oil economy budget? (OEB), how subsidy for kerosene and diesel converts into profit for blackmarketers?basically politicians who runs petrol pumps in benami names?and how oil marketing companies are strangulated by them, all in the name of the common man. The finance minister, who ostensibly stands for transparency, should come clean on the politics of OEB and subsidy by placing the facts before Parliament. However, the article would have been more appreciable if Raha had given suggestions for coming out of this mess.
