Global software company Sybase Inc plans to increase its visibility in the country by reaching to Tier-II cities, targeting small and medium businesses in the next two quarters. Sybase plans to tie up with more independent software vendors (ISVs) to market its products.

Sybase produces databases and software related to information management, enterprise mobility, mobile messaging, data warehousing and analytics, and development tools. The $940-million (about Rs 3,750 crore) company ranks behind Oracle and IBM in the database market and according to Wikipedia, has about 3% market share globally.

David E Fish, technical evangelist, ITS-Engineering, Sybase Inc, said, India, China and Australia are the company’s major areas of growth and contribute to about 17% of its revenue. The company will partner with more distributors and ISVs to establish Sybase as a brand in the Asia Pacific region.

Nitin Kumar Dang, head – channel and distribution, Sybase Software (India) Pvt Ltd, said, Sybase has tie-ups with 12 ISVs at present and is looking for 7 more partnerships at present. By the end of the year, the company hopes to partner with 25 ISVs in all, he added.

While Sybase has about 34 partners across 14 cities, it plans to extend its reach to six more Tier-II cities in the next two quarters, he said. Kochi, Nagpur, Goa, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad and Dehradun will be the focus areas for the next two quarters, Nitin added.

Sybase also plans for a university outreach programme to “generate resources for Sybase products.” The company will tie up with at least seven leading universities across the country and will make the announcement in October when the partnerships are formalised, he added. The company will set up centres of excellence in the universities and also initiate ‘train the trainer’ programmes.
