Shah Rukh Khan has applied for land in Rajarhat (New Town) to set up a cricket academy for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), which is owned by his company, Red Chillies Entertainment. KKR coach John Buchanan is likely to be the director of the academy.
KKR chief executive Joy Bhattacharya said, “We have decided that the academy has to be launched.”
Kolkata has only one cricket academy, which is run by Videocon and Sourav Ganguly, and 12 coaching centres.
There are plans to turn KKR into a full-fledged sports company on the lines of Manchester United, which is the world’s richest soccer club.
