It’s now ‘take charge of your health’ from Reliance Retail. With no fanfare or frills, Mukesh Ambani-promoted Reliance Retail has launched its first wellness store in Hyderabad on Friday. Situated on a sprawling 2,500 sq.ft area, the first Reliance Health and Wellness store is located on Rajbhavan Road (next to Governor’s residence), having over 5,000 stock keeping units.

Though the shop is open for the public here on Friday, the official, when contacted declined to comment on its future plans.

Displaying a variety of products which include healthcare, nutrition, skincare, personal products, the store is unique as it offers both medicines as well consulting services. Besides, it also sells allopathic, Ayurvedic, homeopathic products apart from fitness equipment along with other health and fitness products. Also, it has an optical division and a computerized eye testing centre.

Further, the store offers books and magazines related to health and Yoga and limited sports equipment as well. It also provides advisory services on nutritional products and educational programmes on keeping fit to its registered walk-in customers.

According to an analyst, the business model of Reliance is expected to pose a big competition to the existing organized pharmacy retail trade. Even while the trade itself is slowly catching momentum with players such as Fortis, Apollo Pharmacy, 98.4, Life Spring, MedPlus, Health & Glow, etc, the industry is expecting to see consolidation in the trade.

While there is a proposal to have over 1,000 outlets in the country, sources in the know said that the company is eyeing for a possible acquisition of the existing players and revamp up the model.
