Considering the number of clinical trials being conducted in the country, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Friday launched ?The Clinical Trials Registry?India? (CTRI). The move, besides maintaining transparency, accountability, and easy access of the trials reports to public, is aimed at preventing unethical practices by the clinical research organisations as India is likely to become the hub for such trials.
With the launch of CTRI, India became the first country in the developing world to initiate registry of clinical trials. The facility is scalable and could cover neighbouring countries such as Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. ?India is among the few select countries like Australia, UK and the US that are making researchers accountable through public disclosure,? director general ICMR N K Ganguly said.
