Onion prices remained at the high level of up to R70 per kg in retail markets in the national capital on Thursday even as the government has announced a slew of measures to rein in the rising rates of the commodity. Traders said wholesale prices are firm as supplies have been low in the past couple of days. Street vendors are charging anything between R55 and R70 for one kg of onion in Delhi. Organised retailer Mother Dairy is selling onion at three rates, R40, R47 and R49 per kg, based on the quality, through its 400 Safal outlets in the NCR. Cooperative major Nafed is offering a price of R40 per kg through its five outlets and mobile vans. ?Prices have gone up in the Azadpur market. We will raise the price by R2/kg on Friday,? Mother Dairy business head (Horticulture) Pradipta Kumar Sahoo said.
Exporters urge mills to roll back yarn price hike
Taken aback by a sharp and sudden increase of R7/kg on cotton yarn prices, the Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) has asked spinning mills to roll back the hike and restore yarn price at the original level.
A Sakthivel, president, TEA, said that the sudden increase in cotton yarn price by spinning mills has come as a rude shock to Tirupur?s knitwear export sector at a time when it is struggling to stay afloat due to its declining competitiveness and demand contraction.
