In yet another setback, wind energy major Suzlon is now facing action under the privilege motion moved by the Opposition leader in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, Pandurang Phundkar (BJP).

Phundkar and other members decried the ?slanderous? campaign by the company, especially when the state government had announced a three-member committee just two days ago to inquire into various land deals of Suzlon in in the state.

?Suzlon published newspaper advertisements on Friday, involving celebrities like Aishwarya Rai, following a probe ordered by the government into the project land deals in tribal Dhule and Nandurbar districts,? Phundkar said while moving the motion.

The company is setting up wind energy units in the area. In the same advertisement, the company alleged that some anti-social elements have been levelling baseless allegations against it. The advertisement claimed these elements are using the press and media in mud slinging against the company and its clients.

Phundkar said advertisement, which sought to clarify the company?s position on the land deal controversy, insulted the House and its members.

?Debates of various important issues take place in this House. The company has got it wrong and insulted the House and its members,? Phundkar said. Parliamentary affairs minister Harshwardhan Patil said, ?This is a serious matter and the company has shown lack of confidence in the House.? Chairman Shivajirao Deshmukh said the matter is being referred to the House privileges committee.
