Small and medium size enterprises have regular use of fast and value-for-money printers and Hewlett-Packard has a new printer aimed at meeting those needs at an attractive price. Known as LaserJet P1108, the new monochrome printer offers Duplex printing and has no buttons except the on/off button, which will rarely be used. It has one input tray and can hold up to 150 sheets at a time. There are two light indicators on the top for power and printing.
To begin with, the printer is easy to set-up as it has in-built printer drivers, so you can start it and use it straightaway without having to install printer drivers through a DVD. Just connect it to a PC via its USB and you can start printing within minutes. To make things more worthwhile, P1108 has been equipped with HP?s Smart printing technology that minimises paper wastage by automatically fitting and adjusting the pages. Text print quality was impressive with neat and sharp edges.
LaserJet P1108 boasts of long lasting printer toner quality, which despite five to six hundred print-outs remains as good as the first print. It can print up to 17 pages per minute while the first page takes 6-7 seconds to shoot-out. The device has been vouched as green by Energy Star for its auto on/off technology, which turns the printer off instinctively if it stays dysfunctional for a few seconds. In case you resume your printing, you don?t have to use the switch button, but simply give the print command and the printer will switch on again. The device features 2MB RAM and a 266 MHz processor and is compatible with Windows 7, XP, Linux and Mac.
Overall, it is worth the money at 6.5k and has very few drawbacks. For instance, its manual talks about Duplex printing which allows for both side page printing but the sheet has to be fed manually, and then clicked on the PC. Automatic Duplex printing would have been much handier. Otherwise it is absolutely fine.
