We have to act in our own interest. Global warming is not going to affect only industrialised countries or the rich. But our policymakers are following the carbon economy blindly. When we talk about clean technology or renewables, it?s only from industry perspective. We are not looking at it from poor people?s perspective.
India has a fantastic opportunity to lead the way in cleantech and renewables. Where else do you have hundreds of millions living without electricity? There is a great opportunity to offer them electricity from renewable sources. We have to look at decentralised sources of renewables. We have sun and wind in abundance. Thereby, we can pursue not only a growth path, but also keep our emissions low. In fact, if we don?t address the challenges of development and climate change in this way, we will push more people into poverty.
