After much dilly-delaying Northern India Institute of Fashion Technology (NIIFT) has finally completed an architectural plan for its new campus. The institute is preparing to construct a state-of-art building accommodating all the modern facilities on five acres of land in the industrial area of Mohali. The total cost to carry out this ambitious project is estimated at Rs 13 crore.
Talking to FE, director industries and commerce, Punjab, Vijay Kumar Janjua said, ?We have already secured the grant of Rs 5 crore from the Central government to have new building. However the cost is quite high so we will have to work out on how to generate enough funds to raise the building. Besides we will shortly invite the tender to begin the work.?
Sharing more information, Vijay Sharma, director NIIFT said, ?Due to some technical problems the project has got late but now efforts will put to speed up the implementation. Currently students are getting lessons at a makeshift building in phase-7 of Mohali. It is expected that building will now see completion within two years and our students will be able to shift there. Aprt from this we have also trying to get deemed university status for the institute. ?
She also informed that the institute which has currently 450 students will also be opening its centre in Ludhiana and the first batch is expected to commence by August this year. Apart from this the institute also organised its first annual textile design exhibition ?Suvayan-08? recently in which students showcased their collection.
