The first time you set your eyes on the New Hyundai Verna (Fluidic), you would not be able to take your eyes off it. Gone are the plain looks the car had earlier, what you have now is a body to die for, achieved after a makeover that has developed great character lines. All this is being done in Hyundai?s Chennai factory.

The new Verna boasts of a fluid design theme that extends to every element?be it the large lights, the roof line or the rear lights. The coupe-like silhouette and large wheels work well to give the car a rather sporty stance that is bound to make it stand out amongst its peers. No doubt, Hyundai has gone all out on the new Verna and has stayed away from anything conventional, resulting in a visual treat.

The swooped dashboard and those eagle-eyed head lamps, along with the well-sculpted grille, cut a distinct figure. The overall height of this car has been lowered, but its length has been increased. The tyres are also bigger in size now. However, disappointment creeps in when one sees the not so prominent tail pipe.

The review is incomplete without comparing the new Verna with Honda City. The car?s interiors feel better than the Honda City. There?s a generous amount of head and leg room, the armrests in the doors are designed to take the shape of your arm, the materials used are high quality, the fit and finish are excellent and the cabin is a pleasant place to be in. It has some exclusive features like a centre armrest at the back, a bluetooth-equipped stereo system and a reversing camera built into the rearview mirror. These few specs are missing in the Honda City.

But is the Hyundai Verna fun to drive? Frankly, not as much fun as the Honda City, the car it aims to topple from its number one position. If it?s thrills you?re looking for, look elsewhere. The Honda City?s engine is far too refined for this segment to attain. Comfort was never a problem with the old Verna and the 2011 Hyundai Verna in India goes one step ahead by providing extra leg room at the rear.

What is entirely new for India is the wide range of engines on offer. Yes, the new Hyundai Verna has four engines?two diesel and two petrol engines. Transmission options are also six and five-speed manual as also a four-speed automatic one.

To sum it all, the 2011 Hyundai Verna in India is an important product as it sets to topple the current reigning kings in this segment, the Volkswagen Vento and the Honda City with a price range between R7.5 lakh and R10.5 lakh, with cheaper diesel variants.

The new Verna comes with an alternator management system. It controls the power supply to the battery to relieve engine workload, reducing fuel consumption and emissions while decelerating and idling, and enhance performance while accelerating. Then there?s the gear shift-indicator (manual transmission), which prompts you to change gears efficiently and the ECO indicator (automatic transmission), which glows when the car is at its fuel efficient best.

The new Verna is equipped with safety features like ABS and EBD, clutch lock system, height adjustable seat belt anchors, front and rear disc brakes (in 1.6L) and six airbags. Parking camera and sensors, engine start/stop button with smart key and the clean air cluster ioniser are other features.

The New Hyundai Verna Fluidic lives up to its tagline??new thinking, new possibilities?. Its introduction will result in an increase in competition in the mid-segment sedan and you won?t be disappointed by choosing it.
