I believe that fixed dose combination drugs (?Pharma cos may sue DCGI over combination drugs?, Oct 13) should be a DCGI decision. There are select clinically valid medicine combinations which have a therapeutic role. Fixed dose combinations which are not validated by expert, unbiased peer reviewed clinical evidence should be weeded out. States should implement such opinion as per the Drugs & Cosmetics Act. A random check of medicine catalogues can show that over 10,000 brands including single and multiple dose combinations. It is a nightmarish situation to remember or monitor them. A centralised monitoring system is important to regulate the plethora of brands and combinations.

Untapped energy

It is disheartening that India has made no plans to make the optimal use of wind, hydel or solar energy. Energy can also be produced from seawaves. The government has not come up with a master plan on these energy sources which can be tapped using our own knowhow. As a matter of fact, such sources are cheaper, and much safer too, than nuclear power. Why is the government is sold on to the idea of developing nuke energy only?

Structural matter

Instead of performance-linked pay (?For once left is right?, Oct 13), structural changes to improve efficiency may be more effective.
