Owing to slowdown in the information technology sector, due to Rupee depreciation, Software Technology Park of India (STPI), Mohali could not achieve its set export target this year. The STPI had set a target touch export of worth Rs 700 crore from Chandigarh and its two satellite towns Mohali and Panchkula. But it registered the export of Rs 679.19 crore, while in the year 2006-07, STPI had recorded export of Rs 560.76 crore.
Talking to FE, STPI director, Ajay Srivastava said that despite the slowdown the export growth was remarkable from the tri-city. ?There are 253 units registered with STPI and 135 are quite regular in exporting. Small and medium enterprises have certainly fuelled the growth. Though we could not achieve the target but export figures have certainly grown?. It may be noticed that among the top five STP units, Qurak has shown a huge downfall, reaching Rs 54 crore in the year 2007-08 from Rs95. 97 crore in the year 2006-07. However other units have shown remarkable growth in exports.
