A 58-year-old resident of Prabhat Road area has lodged a complaint of cheating with the Deccan Gymkhana police station against Sudhanshu Pandhare, a native of the city working in the US, for allegedly clicking objectionable photographs with his daughter. The snaps had later soured a marriage proposal.
Police have booked Sudhanshu, along with his father Suresh and mother Revati, residents of Someshwarwadi, Pashan, under section 420 (cheating) and 500 (defamation) of Indian Penal Code.
According to the police, Revati is a friend of the complainant?s wife. The complainant came to know that Revati and Suresh were looking for a bride for Sudhanshu.
The complainant contacted Sudhanshu?s parents with a marriage proposal about two years ago. The family also had a meeting with Sudhanshu when he came to Pune in December 2007.
Later, Sudhanshu had a few meetings with the daughter at his cousin?s house in Erandwane.
Sudhanshu then returned to the US. But he maintained contact with the girl through telephone and Internet. Meanwhile, Sudhanshu?s parents told the complainant that they were positive about his marriage with his daughter.
In December 2008, Sudhanshu again came to Pune for his cousin?s marriage. Then on December 31, 2008, he took the girl for a New Year party. During the party, Sudhanshu allegedly promised to marry her and then without her consent clicked objectionable photographs.
After coming home, when the girl told this to her parents, they got upset and called up Sudhanshu?s parents for cancelling the proposal. Police said that the complainant asked Sudhanshu?s family members to dispose of his objectionable photographs with the girl.
He then fixed up his daughter?s engagement with another man. Police said that in October 2009, someone sent the objectionable photographs to the him.
His family members then cancelled the marriage plan after raising doubts about the girl?s character.
Police inspector Mrudula Karvande of women?s grievances cell of Pune police crime branch is investigating the case.
