The special court for economic offences in Bangalore has issued summons to Kingfisher Airlines chairman Vijay Mallya in a case filed by the income tax department against the airline for not remitting the tax deducted from employees salaries. Kingfisher, in a statement on Thursday, maintained that the tax demands on the company had earlier been set aside by the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal and that no demand existed.
The next date of hearing is April 19. The income tax department case pertains to the non-remittance of R74.94 crore in tax deducted at source (TDS) during FY10.
?The demand on the company referred to in the reports has in fact been set aside by the Honourable Income Tax Appellate Tribunal, Karnataka and it is the company?s considered view that currently no demand exists,? said a Kingfisher Airlines spokesman.
