Mahindra Reva has started to attract interest from new markets for its electric cars. In addition to Europe that has been the mainstay for electric cars so far, the company has been finding interest for its vehicles from Costa Rica, Nepal, Bhutan and Malaysia, R Chandramouli, chief of operations, Mahindra Reva said.

Around 50% of the company?s current production goes towards exports and focus for the company would now be on international markets where there is an interest from customers and support from governments, he said.

The Malaysian government for instance, has reduced taxes for electric vehicles, he said. Following the central?s governments recent announcement of a 20% subsidy on ex-factory prices, Mahindra Reva is now hoping to push up sales for its vehicles. This is a landmark announcement by the government and is sure to generate interest in electric vehicles, he said.

The company is now working on the possibilities of bringing some of the existing Mahindra four wheelers into the electric-vehicle fold. ?All possibilities are being evaluated and a decision should be taken by the end of this fiscal. While most models could lend themselves to an EV platform, the company would begin by bringing some of the four wheelers onto an EV platform,? he said without disclosing more details.

Chandramouli was in Pune for the launch of the company?s REVAi vehicle which would be at four Mahindra dealerships in Pune. Reva earlier has dealerships in Delhi and Bangalore.
