The Union government said on Wednesday that

a proposal to assign infrastructure status to affordable housing sector is under consideration of an institutional mechanism constituted by the finance ministry.

Fingerprint for new SIM on the cards

The Department of Telecom is examining a proposal for making it compulsory for mobile operators to take fingerprint or any other biometric feature of the subscriber at the time of receiving application for a new mobile connection. Minister of state for communications and IT Milind Deora said DoT has recently received a suggestion from the ministry of home affairs that a central database bemaintained by DoT of all subscribers.

758 corruption cases pending with CBI

The CBI registered over 2,000 corruption cases in the last three years and 758 of them are pending investigation, the government said. The agency registered a total of 2,283 cases of corruption between 2010 and till June 2013.

Report on airport metro with DMRC

The urban development ministry has forwarded the report of enquiry committee, constituted to probe the faulty Delhi Airport Metro Line and coaches, to DMRC so that its board can act against officials, contractors and consultants held responsible, the Lok Sabha was informed.

Home min against higher FDI in media

The government has not liberalised FDI regime in print and electronic media in view of concerns expressed by the home ministry, Parliament was informed on Wednesday. ?The ministry of home affairs did not agree to liberalising the FDI caps and/or entry routes in print and electronic media on account of it being a sensitive sector,? commerce and industry minister Anand Sharma said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
