Aditya Birla group owned, Idea Cellular is working on a detailed strategy to launch its services in Jammu and Kashmir.

The telecom operator is set to cover eight districts of J&K initially. According to Anish Roy, chief operating officer of the company for Punjab, J&K and Himachal Pradesh Idea Cellular will hopefully roll out its services in J&K within six months. The CEO said that a careful strategy is being chalked out for J&K which is largely captured by Airtel followed by BSNL.

IDEA Cellular Ltd, which is a GSM mobile services operator with over 41 million subscribers has strengthened its position in Punjab after acquiring Spice Telecommunications. Having a market share of 18 % in Punjab, Idea has 2.4 million subscribers in the state. To further improving its network base in the state, the company will add 1,000 telecom towers before March 2010 reaching a total to 4,000 towers. It may be noted here that the company has licenses and spectrum to operate in all 22 service areas of India, with commercial operations in 15 service areas, currently.

Commenting on the plans for Himachal Pradesh (HP), Anish Roy said, ?We are still a small player in HP. One has to be very cautious especially when you are late entrant in the market. We will strengthen our base in this state too eventually. We will keep on giving value added services to our customers to increase the subscriber base.

For instance we had recently launched a community user group product ? ?My Gang?, in Punjab. My Gang group communications solution is designed for both corporate and individual customers, and allows one to call multiple members in a group at rock bottom rates.

With ?My Gang?, business colleagues, social groups and families can instantly communicate at the touch of a button and reach their associates or friends to share news and updates?.
