EYP Mission Critical Facility (EYP MCF), a part of Hewlett-Packard (HP), is setting up operations in India, China and Japan.

HP completed the acquisition of EYP in February 2008 and the duo are all set to leverage each other?s expertise to provide chip to brick solutions for datacentres, in these geographies.

EYP MCF?s strength in data center design and energy-efficient operational continuity complements HP?s established data center services and innovative power and cooling solutions. The company is targeting the datacenter market which is expected to be about $7.6 billion by 2011, according to Gartner.

Daniel Aw, director, enterprise business & education services technology services, HPS, Asia Pacific & Japan, says, ?India is a very different market because the adoption of internet in India is just 2%. At the same time, Japan is a much matured market. So, the technicalities to be used for datacenters at each of these markets will be different.?

After the US and UK, Japan is the strongest IT market and industry experts say that it has strong local vendors and therefore, growth could be slow in this geography.

Brain Whelan, COO, EYP MCF, says, ?We can see huge deals happening at China and though Japan is a matured market, we can still see large opportunity out there because all these datacenters were built about 10 years back and do not compliment today?s IT needs.?

Narasimhan Tupil, general manager (technology services) of HP, India says, ?Datacenters in India are growing at 22% CAGR, while the APEJ market is growing at 9.3%. Therefore, HP sees a huge opportunity in this market.? HP-EYP will be also leveraging their solutions in the green technology space, in verticals like telecom, manufacturing, retail and BFSI.

Daniel adds, ?Datacentres are like assets to most Indian IT companies and they do look forward to spend an additional capex of 1%-5%. In turn, they expect long term savings in the expenses like electricity bills that are about 50% of the operating expenses and can be reduced to 10%.?Data centres in India are of the size of about 5,000 sq. ft while those in the US are about 50,000 sq ft.
