Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has announced several incentives for workers of co-operative sugar mills saying that the sugar mill which will show good performance would pay its workers bonus equivalent to 45 days of their salary. He also urged the workers of sugar mills to work hard and make the sugar mills self-dependent.
Announcing this while inaugurating the new complex of Haryana Co-operative Sugar mill at Bhali Anandpur in district Rohtak, Hooda said that government has a plan to generate 100 mw of electricity in cooperative sugar mills at an investment of Rs 500 crore. This will not only cater to the needs of sugar mills, but would also ease the power situation in the state. He also said that the government was planning to introduce a loan and interest waiver scheme of cooperative banks for landless labourers, rural artisans and petty shopkeepers under which loan and interest amount up to Rs 10,000 will be waived off.
The new sugarmill has been constructed at a cost of Rs 180 crore, with modern techniques and would produce export quality sugar. There will also be generation of 16 mw of power out of which 11 mw would be given to the grid and the remaining power would be utilised in providing 24 hours electricity to the nearby areas. The sugarcane crushing capacity of the new complex will now be about 35,000 to 40,000 tonnes per day, which will be more than the double of its earlier capacity of about 18,000 tonnes.

Hooda said the government has been giving a number of incentives to the farmers. For this crushing season, farmers will be paid Rs 185 per quintal of sugarcane, besides Rs 25 as bonus. Thus the rate will come to Rs. 210 per quintal, which is the best in the country. This is an increase of Rs 93 per quintal, as compared to the rate of Rs 117 per quintal during the previous non-congress regime. Referring to the demand of the farmers regarding loading and unloading charges, the CM said that henceforth 75% of the charges on this account will be paid by the sugar mills, which could be in the form of bonus to the farmers.
