Philippines-based GrainPro has decided to bring its agricultural storage systems to West Bengal and the northeast. GrainPro is targeting the tea industry with its Grainpro Cocoons (boxes), which ensure quality retention and longer period of storage for dry agricultural commodities, especially in tropical and arid conditions.

Lt Col (retd) Ravi IS Verdi, who is the chairman & managing director of BA Agro Hermetic Preservation Systems, GrainPro’s India distributor, said GrainPro Cocoons ensure storage of dry commodities for a longer duration, up to a minimum of five years.”

Tea, which is one of the most important cash crops in the region, requires good storage so that it does not loose its colour, taste and aroma.

“Our storage system helps retain the nutritional value of the product stored, without the use of harmful pesticides and toxic fumigants,” said Verdi. According to him, cost of the Cocoons is Rs 800 per tonne. “Though we provide guarantee of five years, the storage system can last for up to 10 years,” Verdi said.
