US-based Lockheed Martin has said advanced technology of the F-16s and the C-130J Super Hercules is the right choice to meet or exceed India?s defence requirements. The statement came ahead of the March deadline for the submission of request for proposal for 126 medium multi role combat aircraft worth $10 billion for the Indian Air Force.
Speaking at a media briefing on the sidelines of the Defexpo 2008, Orville Prins, vice- president, business development (India) for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, said, ?When it comes to proven performance, advanced technology and international partnerships, the F-16 program is second to none.?
?The F-16IN is specifically designed to meet or exceed for India?s MMRCA requirements and provide even greater front-line capability with bottom line reliability.? He also announced that the company had signed a deal with the Indian government worth an estimated $1.1 billion to sell six Super Hercules C-130J military transport planes.
?We are proud India chose the C-130J to meet its airlift needs,? Prins added.
The C-130J Super Hercules programme has experienced tremendous success in the recent past as the airlifter?s capabilities have been proven in special missions, humanitarian relief and military operations worldwide.
The US government will guarantee supplies of equipment and infrastructure under its foreign military sales programme but not commercial details such as offsets that is left to the manufacturing company.
?The C-130J?s reputation for effectiveness, readiness and safety continues to grow as does its prospects for international sales,? said Prins. ?We are proud that India chose the C-130J to meet its airlift needs. They will soon join the ranks of seven countries who experience first hand the outstanding capabilities of the C-130J Super Hercules.? Norway and Canada just joined the ranks of C-130J operators which include Denmark, Italy, the UK, Australia, and the US.
With its heavy lift capability, advanced cockpit avionics and unmatched versatility in adverse terrain and flying conditions, the C-130J Super Hercules can meet or exceed India?s unique requirements for an advanced tactical air lifter, he said. Prins said the F-16IN and the C-130J both have inherent capabilities that are an excellent match with the long-term requirements for military aircraft in India.
Lockheed Martin submitted an F-16IN proposal in response to India?s MMRCA program requirement.
In its exhibit at DefExpo, Lockheed Martin is highlighting the growing strategic military relationship of the US and India.
