The growing media industry and the increasing need to generate accurate information along with branding and image management, has resulted in a huge demand for employees in the corporate communications department by the companies (whether domestic or MNCs).

Not only candidates with public relations background are being hired but also those with finance, HR, sales and journalism experience as well.

With the salaries in this field touching Rs 1 crore p.a. and above at the highest position and Rs 10 lakh to 25 lakh at the middle-level position, the job of a corporate communications manager is attracting many. Says Arunima Sharma, head-executive research, INX Executive Search Pvt Ltd, “Many MNCs that are entering India are looking at developing a corporate communications team first, along with the marketing and sales force.”

“Big corporate houses like the Tatas and the Birlas, give excellent salary package to corporate communications candidates at the senior level. However, the salary package differs from company to company,” she adds. Media houses, event management companies, corporate houses, NGOs and PSUs are in need of image enhancement, along with a balanced report card on corporate governance and social responsibility. The demand, therefore, is creating fast growing career options for future managers. According to experts, the trend at present witnessed is candidates with HR and journalism background are making a beeline to become corporate communications executives, excellent salary being one of the reasons.

The role of a corporate communications manager includes creating a strong corporate, financial and market branding through an effective advertising and promotions program, media relations and investor relations activities and to identify and implement a sustainable CSR programme, among others,” said the corporate communications head of a large business group.
