Government-owned Coal India Ltd (CIL) and state-owned West Bengal Power Development Corporation Ltd (WBPDCL) have locked horns over coal supplies and are not ready to sign the fuel supply agreement (FSA) unless there is a consensus between both companies on the agreed quantity.
Prasun Chakraborty, MD, WBPDCL, said CIL has prepared an internal order of supplying 14.6 million tonne to WBPDCL in 2009-2010 of which 9.35 million tonne have to be lifted from Mahanadi Coal Fields Ltd (MCL), 4.15 mt from Eastern Coal Fields Ltd (ECL) and 1mt from Bharat Coking Coal Ltd. So far, WBPDCL has been getting the maximum supply from ECL but while formulating the FSA, CIL shifted the maximum contractual quantity to MCL, to which WBPDCL can?t agree.
MCL coal is used in Kolaghat Thermal Power Station and Santhaldih Thermal Power Station and lifting 9.35 mt of MCL coal implies handling seven rakes everyday.
