Limited access to availability of water, coupled with the rise in population, is increasing highlighting the growing need of water and the onus to conserve water together falls on the government, as well as industries, according the two-day ‘Water Summit 2009’, organised by CII on Thursday and Friday.
The summit reflected upon the investment potential in the sector, the scope of public-private community partnership (PPCP) schemes and the active sharing of knowledge about the best technological and industrial practices.
By 2050, India is projected to require 14,47 billion cubic metre of water, whereas currently, only 1,123 billion cubic metre water is available. Leaders present at the summit sought various initiatives from the government for launching projects and schemes to increase their participation.
There is a need to look at inefficient use of water in urban areas, since usable fresh and ground water resources are currently limited. The private sector too, has several roles to play across the value chain.
