The article (?Three men in a boat?, June 16) raises the relevant question: ?why despise globalisation that is, after all, empowering the have-nots?? Of the three?Lawrence Summers, Pascal Lamy and Prakash Karat?in the same, albeit strange, intellectual boat on the subject of globalisation, Karat is different. He is a party ideologue with no vested personal interest. But even if some lessons on market economy learnt from China could not transform him, he is yet to rebut convincingly the charge that his attitude helps China against India.

Diluted science

It?s an undisguised reality that India?s resource mobilisation and spending on S&T research are woefully short (?Signs on science?, June 16). What?s more, quota-based admission will dilute science in universities further.
