Following terrorist attacks in Mumbai, the country?s financial hub, the terror fear has gripped the organisers of the Commonwealth Games 2010, to be held in New Delhi.
To counter the probable terror strikes during the mega event, authorities are making efforts to step up security measures through a high-tech security system.
?For this, a separate security committee will be set up exclusively for the forthcoming event in October 2010. The committee will have representatives from the home ministry, Delhi Police, central intelligence agencies and games organising committee,?? a senior official in the home ministry told FE. The commando groups would be deployed at all venues and a strong vigil will be kept on the sensitive spots through satellite and entry to the games village and sports stadia will be strictly allowed only through electronic I-cards , he added.
All the measures will be taken to counter the terrorist strategy of micro point planning by which the terrorist groups have struck Mumbai.
The officials of the sports and youth affairs ministry said, ?We have ample time before the Games so a foolproof security system will be in place before the event.? As the capital will witness around 8,000 participants from 71 countries and a large group of foreign visitors, the central security committee will maintain a direct link international security agencies, they added.
To control the flow of visitors, a crow management system will be in introduced. Electronic ticketing system network will link the metro stations, bus stands and selected taxi stands.
The government has already placed orders for the latest surveillance mobile cameras. The Games village where foreign players will be lodged, will have separate security arrangements. This will be a four-level security ring including special commando groups, security agencies and special staff in plain clothes.
All state government departments are being linked through Wide Area Network (WAN). Some strategic spots will become Wi-Fi zones. About 10 km area around Games village will be covered under this system.
The whole idea is to instill a sense of security to Delhiites and participants who have been left insecure and angry at all those who are responsible for their security following two major terror attacks in Delhi and Mumbai.
