BSNL said it is yet to award the contract for the data-intensive wireless communication technology — WiMax — to franchisees amid reports that the process of partner selection could cost the PSU dear.
“The Wimax franchisee tender is still under evaluation under the designated panel, therefore, there is no question of any allocation to any franchisee yet.
“The panel will examine all aspects before selecting the franchisees and if there is found to be any discrepancy it will be taken care of. We will maintain highest standard of transparency,” BSNL CMD Kuldeep Goyal said.
He was responding to a query on a recently controversy regarding selection of franchisee for BSNL’s WiMax services.
BSNL Employees Union General Secretary V A N Namboodiri said he has written a letter the CMD seeking clarity on the issue.
Goyal said he is yet to see the letter.
The Union quoting media reports said, “There have been a lot of reports in the press about the huge loss to BSNL in the proposed WiMax franchise by BSNL.
“It is even reported that 75 per cent of the accrued revenue will go to the private player while BSNL will get only 25 per cent.”
