Singur is an exception and West Bengal is not Singur, chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said here on Wednesday as the state is still hopeful that a solution to the issue of returning land to farmers could be found out within a week?s time.

?We are facing some problems. There are some apprehensions from some quarters. Singur is an exception. West Bengal is not Singur. Agriculture can not be the only model. Based on the success of agriculture we must industrialise the state,? said Bhattacharjee.

Referring to apprehension of companies like Infosys, the CM said he has already asked state IT minister Debesh Das to talk to the company. The West Bengal government will take full responsibility when Infosys will come to the state. They will not face any problem, the chief minister said. A slew of projects is taking place in West Bengal. The state cannot afford to stop the industrialisation, he said.

Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress is hell bent on its demand for 300 acres from within the project area. ?We have visited the project area and found out that 300 acres from within the area can actually be given back to farmers. The project area should be revised,? said Rabindranath Bhattacharya, the Trinamool MLA who is heading the special committee.

The four-member special committee visited Singur for the first time on Wednesday to finalise the modalities of the agreement between the West Bengal government and the Opposition.

The team visited Joymollah, Beraberi, Do Bandhi, Khaser Bheri areas. There are some ancillary units in the areas. The team is likely to finalise the report by Sunday.
