Karnataka?s Devenahalli airport has lowered its traffic estimates for the first year of operations and deferred further expansion plans, citing slow air traffic growth and a declining economy. Bengaluru International Airport, which had earlier expected to handle 10 million to 11 million passengers during in the current fiscal, would handle close to 9.2 million passengers by March 31, 2008, airport authorities said.

The airport-operator Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL)?chief executive, Albert Brunner said passenger traffic at the airport during the first six months of operations was at 4 million passengers. ?We are in no hurry to expand. The airport has the capacity to handle passengers for the next two to three years.?
