A 58-year-old MCD sanitation worker, who allegedly posed as an Army personnel and procured an arms licence using forged documents from Jammu and Kashmir, has been arrested by the Delhi Police?s Special Cell.
The Special Cell came across Jai Prakash?s name while investigating people who were issued arms licences by district magistrates in Kashmir on fake documents.
During interrogation, the Sultanpuri resident, who also runs a pig farm, said he wanted a gun to put pressure on his business rivals.
For this, he contacted Ranjit Singh and paid Rs 18,000 for a fake licence. Singh, who worked at the Ordinance Depot in Shakurbasti as a sweeper, has been providing arms licence to people by forging recommendation letters on Army letterheads, said the police, adding that he was arrested along with two others in June.
The police had recovered three revolvers and pistols along with six original arms licences from the three persons. It came to light during verification that the licences were issued on the basis of recommendation certificates issued by various Army units, including the Ordinance Depot at Shakurbasti.
?The letters were later found to be fake. Investigations revealed that several people in Delhi, including some with a criminal background, have obtained arms licence on the basis of fake letters,? a senior police official said.
